Valrie Chambers, PhD, associate professor of accounting at Stetson University, has been appointed to the Diversity + Inclusion Advisory Task Force of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA).

“I’m passionate about social justice and believe that the accounting profession should evolve with our society,” said Chambers, who was appointed to FICPA’s board of directors in January. “Diversity and inclusion create a stronger and more trusted profession. I believe there are opportunities to expand diversity and inclusion within the accounting profession in Florida. The task force will be on the front lines for shaping an inclusive environment for potential members.”

Chambers said FICPA’s dedication to building and supporting a diverse talent pipeline influenced her willingness to serve on the task force. The charge: to develop, design and implement diversity, equity and inclusion programs, provide input on future diversity initiatives, create resources and obtain feedback on establishing a diversity summit.

“In the workforce, diversity provides a mixture of cultural identities, personalities and experiences for developing concepts and plans that are relevant to a global audience,” said Chambers, noting that she wants to continue to make a difference in accountancy by joining the task force. “I hope people from underrepresented backgrounds view the CPA profession as trustworthy and welcoming, choose an accounting career and join the FICPA.”
