Louis DeJoy

• Stetson University alumnus Louis DeJoy was selected as the nation’s 75th Postmaster General, according to the Arizona Republic on May 6 and dozens of other outlets. DeJoy received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Stetson. “It will be an incredible honor to serve as Postmaster General, and I commit myself to upholding the Postal Service’s cherished role in our nation,” he said.

• News of the passing of former DeLand mayor and retired Stetson Grounds Manager David Rigsby appeared in the West Volusia Beacon, the Daytona Beach News-Journal and Hometown News. Rigsby retired from Stetson in January after 42 years.

• Stuart Michelson, PhD, Roland and Sarah George professor of Finance and Chair of Finance, was quoted in “Why Investors Should Add Utility Dividend Stocks” in U.S. News & World Report and MSN Money. “The recent market downturn has also caused price decreases in these stocks, providing room for growth going forward,” he said.

• Bill Andrews, PhD, associate professor of Management, was quoted by the West Volusia Beacon in “Stetson professor: Uncertainty reigns as businesses reopen” on May 6.

• “Stetson University Management Teams Rank in Global Top 10 Percentile in Capstone Simulation Competition” appeared on CityBizList May 7 about the four Stetson students – Amelia Condon, Kyle Godlewski, Bilal Hashmi and Wyatt Peck. Ram Subramanian, PhD, professor of leadership, also was quoted in the story.

• Law Professor Peter Lake, director of the Center for Excellence in Higher Education Law and Policy, was quoted in “U.S. Publishes New Regulations on Campus Sexual Assault” in Inside Higher Ed on May 7.

• Law Professor Ciara Torres-Spelliscy was quoted in a May 4 article on Salon.com called, “Trump campaign has not returned illegal donation from foreign national, FEC records show.”

• Stetson University is mentioned in “Hospitality industry doesn’t expect a quick rebound” in the Hometown News on May 7.

• “Re-Drafting Loaded 2010 MLB Draft” on Bleacher Report May 7 mentions former Stetson pitcher Jacob deGrom among today’s Major League Baseball stars who were not selected as a top draft pick out of college. 

• “UMaine baseball standout to transfer, reunite with former coach at Stetson” appeared in the Bangor Daily News on April 28 and said Hernen Sardinas will transfer to Stetson as a graduate student. “UMaine baseball pitcher from Bangor plans to transfer” in the Bangor Daily News also mentions potential transfer student Hernen Sardinas.

• Stetson junior Stewart Schmidt was interviewed by the Akron Beacon Journal on May 5 in the story, “Green volunteers don’t let social distancing stop quest to aid the needy.”
