Stetson’s lacrosse program earned team and individual academic honors recently as the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association handed out its annual academic awards.

The Hatters are one of 312 teams at all levels across the nation to earn a nod as an Academic Honor Squad. In order to qualify for this prestigious honor, teams must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the year. Stetson finished the 2018-19 academic year with a 3.45 team GPA.

On the individual side, five Hatters earned a spot on the IWCLA’s Zag Sports Division I Academic Honor Roll, joining a total of 502 additional student-athletes from 99 other institutions. In order to be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.

“Academics are a top priority for our program and receiving the IWLCA Academic Honor Squad once again is a great recognition for the hard work the team puts in to their academics,” head coach Christy Leach said. “The student-athletes put in the work on a daily basis and it is great to see them get rewarded for their efforts.

“Our student-athletes continue to raise the bar, not only athletically, but in every aspect, especially academics. They continue to push themselves and each other to make our program better.”

Stetson’s individual honorees are Bailey Busscher (FLEX-Real Estate), Jaclynn Levy (Communication & Media Studies), Karli Maguire (Health Sciences), Sandra Stephan (Business Admin/Studio Arts) and Sarah Trupp (Communication & Media Studies).
