McKenna Beach Named ASUN Player of the Week

Hatter senior McKenna Beach recorded a Triple-Double against Lipscomb on Jan. 12, 2019.

Fresh off her first career triple-double, Stetson University senior guard McKenna Beach (Cape Coral, Fla.) has been named the ASUN Player of the Week, the league announced last Monday, Jan. 14.

Beach collected 20 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high 11 assists in Stetson’s 80-65 win at Lipscomb on Jan. 12.  She scored 16 of her 20 points in the second half, including 12 in the fourth quarter.  It was Stetson’s first triple-double since Victoria McGowan accomplished the feat in 2013 and the ninth triple-double in school history.

“I thought McKenna Beach played the probably the best game I have ever seen her play in the four years I’ve coached her,” head coach Lynn Bria said after the game.  “For someone of her stature to get a triple-double, that (shows) it’s not how big you are, it’s how you big you play.  I am really proud of her.”

Beach also scored 14 points in Tuesday’s 69-52 victory over Liberty. For the season, she is averaging 12.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.6 assists-per-game.  She ranks among the ASUN leaders in scoring, assists, steals and free throw pct., as well as minutes played.

It is Beach’s second career Player of the Week honor and her first this season.  The Hatters have had five weekly honorees in 2018-19.

Stetson (7-9, 2-0 ASUN) will visit UNF (6-8, 1-2 ASUN) at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
