Professor Emeritus of Political Science, T. Wayne Bailey, Ph.D., co-wrote an opinion piece in The Daytona Beach News Journal, titled, “Vote No on Amendment 10.” The article urges voters on Nov. 6 to reject the proposed amendment to Florida’s Constitution, which would require, rather than authorize, the Legislature to provide for a state Department of Veterans Affairs, create a state Office of Domestic Security and Counter-Terrorism, and force all counties to elect a sheriff, tax collector, property appraiser, supervisor of elections and Clerk of Circuit Court. The proposed amendment is “a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” the authors wrote.

  • Law Professors Linda S. Anderson, Lance N. Long, Rebecca Morgan, Ellen S. Podgor and Candace M. Zierdt are mentioned in the Oct. 4 TBO article, “Florida law professors sign letter blasting Kavanaugh.” The letter “garnered support from more than 1,700 law professors nationwide, including 65 others from Florida,” the article said. The U.S. Senate narrowly confirmed Brett Kavanaugh Oct. 6 and hours later he was sworn in at the U.S. Supreme Court.

  • John Sheehy of Stetson’s Office of Career and Professional Development was quoted in the Penny Hoarder article “Not a Lot of Job Experience? Use These 5 Tips to Craft the Perfect Resume”. “Quantifying the data is always a wonderful thing,” Sheehy said. “It’s a loophole that most students aren’t doing enough of.”
  • The Oct. 4 The Cut reports that Law Professor Candace M. Zierdt is one out of 250 law professors that released a statement: ‘The Problem With Sexual Harassment Is Sexism.”

  • Jason Evans, Ph.D., associate professor of environmental science at Stetson, was quoted in the Star News Online in the story entitled, “Did a warming climate make Florence worse?” The story previously appeared in the Daytona Beach News-Journal.
  • Alumna and pianist Kosumo Morishita, Ph.D., was appointed to music director of the Marion Chamber Music Society in Ocala, according to South Marion Citizen. Morishita earned a Bachelor of Music degree summa cum laude from Stetson, studying with Professor Emeritus Michael Rickman, D.M.A.
  • Law Professor Lance Long is quoted in the Oct. 8 Minnesota NPR MPR News article, “Climate change trial: MN jury to decide if protesters’ lawbreaking is justified.”
  • Law Professor Rebecca C. Morgan wrote the Oct. 9 Elder Law Prof Blog, “Medicare Advantage Plans Shifting Financial Risk to Drs?” Professor Morgan wrote the Oct. 9 Elder Law Prof Blog, “It’s Still Hurricane Season.”

  • The Oct. 5 Election Law Blog reports that Law Professor Ciara Torres-Spelliscy was a guest on the No Jargon Podcast, “Episode 150: Giving the Vote Back.” Professor Torres-Spelliscy was mentioned in the Oct. 10 The Guam Daily article, “US Supreme Court won’t review voting rights lawsuit.”

  • Alumnus Peter Nyong’o was listed in the story, “Check out the most eligible bachelors among politicians son’s in Kenya,” by Classic105, Radio Africa Group. Nyong’o also is the younger brother to Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong’o.
  • Lt. Cmdr. Kathy Paradis, a Stetson alumna, was featured in the Boca Beacon article titled, “Boca Grande native is now successful Navy attorney.” She is a staff judge advocate and the principal legal adviser to the commander of Sub Group Nine. As a Navy lawyer, she provides advice on a wide range of ethical and legal concerns.
  • Stetson alumnus Mary Melle “Met” Burgess Schrieffer accepted the South Carolina Baptist Foundation’s Lonnie H. Shull Jr. Legacy Award for her and her late husband George Alan Schrieffer’s legacy of charity and support for the organization. The story says, “George and Met Schrieffer met at Stetson University and were married Dec. 22, 1953.”
  • Alumnus Bill Dudley was mentioned in the Tampa Bay Newspapers article, “Peters and Kedron compete for a seat on Board of County Commissioners.” Dudley ran for school board in district six during the Aug. 28 primary election against the eventual winner Matt Stewart.
  • Chrissy Stiles is running for a seat on the Mount Dora City Council in the Nov. 6 election, as reported by the Orlando Sentinel. Stiles is the owner of a Barrel of Books and Games, a bookstore in Mount Dora, and earned a M.B.A. from Stetson.
  • Alumna Stacey Morris published an article in Seeking Alpha, titled “Midstream Vs. Upstream: A Tale Of Two Market Reactions To Rising Capex,” which discusses the differing reactions to the recent increase in capital expenditure. “MLP [Master Limited  Partnerships] announcements were well-received, while E&Ps [Exploration and Production companies] generally faced selling pressure,” she wrote. Stacey Morris is the Director of Energy Research at Alerian.
  • Law alumnus Robin Fuson is quoted in the Oct. 2 Osprey Observer, “Robin Fuson Has Experience Needed To Serve As County Circuit Court Judge, Group 25.”
  • Law alumnus Bryan A. Lober is interviewed in the Oct. 5 Florida Today article, “Meet the candidates: County Commission District 2.”
