Wendy Anderson, Ph.D., professor and chair of Environmental Science and Studies, was quoted in The Daytona Beach News-Journal on Oct. 22 and the Leesburg Daily Commercial on Oct. 23 in an article titled, “Volusia, Flagler customers and businesses pick up on plastic pollution movement.” A 2015 video depicting the extraction of a plastic straw from a turtle’s nose made many people aware of the issue, Anderson said, adding she was happy to see Stetson’s campus dining facility recently replace plastic straws with paper.

  • Christopher Ferguson, Ph.D., professor of psychology, wrote an article for The San Francisco Gate titled “Overhype and ‘research laundering’ are a self-inflicted wound for social science.” In the article, Ferguson said meta-analytic studies are “symptomatic of a big problem within social science: the overhyping of dodgy, unreliable research findings that have little real-world application.”

    Professor of Biology Terence Farrell, Ph.D., was quoted in an Oct. 23 Daily Mail article titled, “Giant centipede and snake battle to the death in a mesmerising struggle – which one do you think survives?” Though much smaller, the centipede killed the snake in a bloody battle. “Most things do not want to mess with centipedes,” said Farrell. “They’ve got these nasty fangs on the front end that inject very painful bites.”

  • K.C. Ma, Ph.D., CFA, director of the Roland George Investments Program, was quoted in U.S. News & World Reports on Oct. 22 in “7 Ways to Buy Sports Dividend Stocks.” Commenting on Nike stock, Ma said that the company “has aggressively embraced the power of digital to enhance most facets of its business.”
  • Law Professor Ellen Podgor is quoted in the Oct. 21 Washington Times article, “Watchdog: Trump Justice Department pursuing fewer corruption cases.”

  • Stetson Alumnus Kevin Kang was interviewed in Medium Authority Magazine regarding the future of cryptocurrency markets. “My biggest concern is that the government wields too much power when it comes to the financial sector, and will abuse its power to slow down the innovation.” Kang is a founding principal of BK Coin Capital, LP.
  • Alumnus Steven Lane was mentioned in an article in Broadway World Orlando “Orlando Shakes Opens The Door For The 2017 Tony Nominee, A Doll’s House, Part 2.” Lane will be portraying Torvald in the production A Doll’s House, Part 2 produced by Orlando Shakes in partnership with the University of Central Florida and premiering Jan. 2, 2019.
  • Former major league pitcher Lenny DiNardo was mentioned in the Mets Merized Online article, “Revisiting the Mets’ 2001 Draft.” DiNardo played at Stetson from 1999-2001 and played with the Boston Red Sox, the Oakland A’s and the Kansas City Royals during his career.
