Melinda Hall, Ph.D., assistant professor of Philosophy, was quoted Oct. 11 by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in “This Life with Gracie: Why are women surprised, angered by Kavanaugh confirmation?” Some women were surprised that a woman, like Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, voted for him. But Hall said conservative women are unlikely to align with progressive causes like the #MeToo movement. “They feel too much kinship with the status quo,” she said.

  • Clay Henderson J.D., executive director of Stetson’s Institute for Water and Environmental Resilience, was quoted Oct. 17 in the Daytona Beach News-Journal article, “County may seek compromise with opponents of Mosquito Lagoon plan.” The Mosquito Lagoon Reasonable Assurance Plan establishes water quality targets for the lagoon. “[The plan] does not give reasonable assurance that water quality standards will be achieved or that significant improvement will occur within five years,” Henderson stated.

    Political Science Professor Emeritus T. Wayne Bailey, Ph.D., was quoted Oct. 12 in the Daytona Beach News-Journal. The article, titled, “Decade-old dropped charges raised in Volusia County School Board race,” discusses several older charges resurfacing against Al Bouie, a candidate in the Volusia County school board race. “We think information and transparency are so important,” Bailey said. “The information needs to be within context. It needs to be available for some fact-checking.”

  • Jalena Petrovic, Ph.D., assistant professor of Communication and Media Studies, was mentioned in an article in the Daytona Beach News-Journal. Petrovic hosted a free presentation about fake news at the Port Orange Regional Library.
  • Law Professor Royal Gardner was lead coordinating author of the Global Wetland Outlook, which received media coverage around the world in more than 700 online articles in outlets, including the Japan Times, Times of India and others.
  • Law Professor Ciara Torres-Spelliscy wrote the Oct. 11 Harvard Law Review Blog, “Florida Voters Have the Chance to Expand the Franchise in 2018,” picked up by the Election Law Blog.
