Stetson University was showcased as “A Beacon of Innovation” during Blackboard’s 2018 international conference last week in Orlando.

The Blackboard World annual conference, which attracts more than 2,000 professionals from the education industry, featured video clips and photos with quotes from Stetson faculty, students and administrators, including in a continuous loop in two main public gathering areas.

Aspiring to be an innovator in online education, Stetson selected Blackboard to provide a single, comprehensive digital learning environment. With Blackboard, Stetson has dramatically improved the teaching and learning experience for students and faculty, said Jose Bernier, Ed.D., Stetson’s associate vice president and Chief Information Officer.

Bernier’s photo with a quote was shown on a continuous loop in the conference’s Main Stage area, which included seating for 2,000 and vendor exhibits.

A video clip of Lisa Sawtell, M.Ed., director of Stetson’s Online Learning and Educational Technology, and Rajni Shankar-Brown, Ph.D., associate professor and Jessie Ball duPont Chair of Social Justice Education, was shown during the keynote address by Bill Ballhaus, chairman, CEO and president of Blackboard.

A video clip of Jordan Tyus, a Stetson student, was also shown during a presentation by two senior Blackboad staff, following the keynote address.

Thanks to the efforts of the university’s Office of Online Learning and Educational Technology, Stetson is now recognized as a leader in online education – fulfilling our strategic goals ahead of schedule, Bernier said.
