Adding the Finishing Touches

Two pieces of heavy equipment lift the seal and workers in place to attach the seal to the building.

Workers applied the Stetson University seal to the renovated and expanded Carlton Union Building on Tuesday afternoon, as they prepare to open the new Commons Dining Hall and other amenities before students arrive next month for Fall Semester 2018.

The new Commons Dining Hall and North Wing will be ready when students begin moving in to residence halls on Aug. 18. The CUB will feature a new Student Lounge, student meeting rooms, offices for the Student Government Association and other student groups, and a new studio for the WHAT student online radio station.

The metal Stetson seal was hoisted onto the east side of the building on Tuesday, July 24, beside the wall of glass for the Commons Dining Room and covered outdoor seating area. In coming months, the area east of the building will be landscaped and become green space.

The final phase of the project calls for renovating the South Wing of the CUB by early January. A larger Coffee Shop will open downstairs, as well as a new Faculty Lounge, and on the second floor will be offices for Campus Life and Student Success.
