Three Stetson Teams Earn Top NCAA Academic Honors

The Stetson University beach volleyball, men’s cross country, and women’s golf programs have earned NCAA Public Recognition Awards for posting Academic Progress Rates in the top 10 percent of their sports, the NCAA announced on Wednesday.

They are among 1,284 NCAA Division I programs recognized for their outstanding APR scores, calculated through the 2016-17 academic year.

This is the fifth year in a row the Stetson men’s cross country team has received the NCAA Public Recognition Award, the third year in a row for Stetson women’s golf, and the first-ever recognition for Stetson beach volleyball.

“I applaud every program earning a Public Recognition Award this year for their commitment to going above and beyond to prepare students for life after college through academic achievement,” NCAA President Mark Emmert said. “To have nine national champions so far this year — including men’s and women’s basketball — be among those recognized illustrates that student-athletes succeed athletically and academically.”

The Academic Progress Rate (APR) is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams.  APR scores for all Division I teams will be released May 23.
