Stetson Lacrosse Team Named ‘Academic Honor Squad’
Stetson Lacrosse earned team and individual academic honors this week as the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association handed out its annual awards.
The Hatters are one of 310 schools at all levels across the nation to earn a nod as an Academic Honor Squad. In order to qualify for this prestigious honor, teams must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the year. Stetson finished the 2016-17 academic year with 3.20 team GPA.
On the individual side, four Hatters earned a spot on the IWCLA’s Zag Sports Division I Academic Honor Roll, joining student-athletes from 101 other institutions. In order to be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
“Academics are a top priority for our program and receiving the IWLCA Academic Honor Squad is a great recognition for the hard work the team puts in to their academics,” head coach Christy Leach said. “The student-athletes put in the work on a daily basis and it is great to see them get rewarded for their efforts.
“Our student-athletes continue to raise the bar, not only athletically, but in every aspect, especially academics. They continue to push themselves and each other to make our program better.”
Stetson’s individual honorees are Erin Cornell (Health Sciences), Sam Maguire (Elementary Education), Maddie Holvey (Accounting), and Rachel Valocchi (Psychology/Sociology).
