Stetson University junior right-hander Mitchell Jordan earned his first career Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week award this week for his performance last Friday against Villanova.

Jordan blanked the visiting Wildcats for seven innings, allowing just two hits and two walks while tying his career-high with nine strikeouts. He needed just 89 pitches to complete seven innings of work.

Jordan allowed just three base runners through the first six innings. Villanova’s Adam Goss accounted for two of those with a single in the second and a walk in the fourth. The only time Villanova really ever threatened to score was in that fourth inning when Todd Czinege delivered a one-out double, but Jordan got a strikeout and a fly ball to get out of the inning.

The win for Jordan was his first of the season despite his 2.45 ERA through three outings. He has recorded 22 strikeouts in 18.1 innings of work through three starts and opponents are hitting just .182 against him.

Jordan and the Hatters will be back in action this week, with road games at Florida International and the University of Miami on Tuesday and Wednesday before returning home on Friday night to open a three-game series against the University of Maine at Melching Field.

The games at FIU and Miami are both scheduled for 6 p.m. start times. Jordan’s next scheduled start on Friday, March 11, is set for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch.
