By any measure, the accomplishments of Andria (Long) Herr, graduate of Stetson, class of 1983, have shone brightly in business, higher education and public service. Florida Governor Rick Scott has recently announced her appointment to the Central Florida Expressway (CFX) Authority. Herr will serve on the Board of the CFX Authority, which is responsible for construction, maintenance and operation of certain toll roads in four counties of Greater Orlando (Orange, Seminole, Osceola and Lake counties).

“My time at Stetson prepared me completely for my business career,” Herr stated. “There are more opportunities on this campus to develop your leadership potential and style than you can possibly imagine.”

Currently Herr is president of Hylant – Orlando, a privately held insurance brokerage company. Under her leadership at Hylant and AGIS, the Orlando office tripled both its revenue and staff, ensuring the delivery of growth and profitability through exceptional service to the clients they serve.

Prior to Hylant, Herr served as the national president of AGIS, a full service insurance agency, where she was responsible for all five offices located in Florida, Indiana and Michigan. Before entering the broker side of the industry, Herr was vice president of Sales for UnitedHealthcare and launched their first commercial products in Central and North Florida. She was responsible for developing staff, product design, distribution and profitability. She worked closely with senior management to develop health plan policies.

Recognized as an exceptional negotiator in insurance communications, Herr was named one of the “40 Under 40” and “Women Who Mean Business” by the Orlando Business Journal, as well as the Orlando Women’s Executive Council’s Business Women of the Year. Under her leadership, the Hylant Orlando office was named one of the Orlando Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work” for 2013 and 2014.

In addition to serving on the Board of Directors for the Foundation for Seminole State College and The Seminole County Regional Chamber of Commerce, Herr also serves on the Women and Girls Cancer Alliance Board and the Women’s Advisory Council for South Seminole Hospital.

The Stetson community is central to Herr’s family, she said. “Some of the closest bonds in life—I would call them beyond friendships—that I still maintain today, were developed on campus,” she said.

“I met my husband here at the Pike House,” she said, “and our son is a junior at Stetson and is a member of the fraternity. My ties to the sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha have truly been life long.”

Herr is married to 1982 Stetson alumnus Mark Herr, who serves as district chair for Seminole County on Stetson’s Alumni Association Board of Directors. With his J.D. from Mercer University, he is a judge in the Seminole County Court.

Robert Herr, who describes his mother as “hardworking, caring, loving and supportive,” is an accounting major at Stetson, class of 2017. He plans to get his C.P.A. degree in graduate school.

Herr’s sister and brother-in-law are also Stetson alumni; Jennifer and James Walsh both earned their master’s degrees at Stetson University.

“We are life-long Hatters,” she stated proudly. Her term with CFX started in September and will continue through June 20, 2018.
