John Dominic Crossan, leading Biblical Scholar, to speak at Stetson

CrossanJohnDominic-COPYDr. John Dominic Crossan, noted Biblical scholar, author, lecturer and authority on historical Jesus and First Century Christianity, will deliver the Christian Theology Lecture at Stetson University on Thursday, Jan. 29, 7 p.m., in the Stetson Room, second floor of the Carlton Union Building, 131 E. Minnesota Ave., DeLand. The lecture is free and open to the public.

The Christian Theology Lectures at Stetson University, founded in 1975 by an anonymous Florida donor, is an endowed lectureship whose purpose is to bring to the DeLand campus speakers who will provide a better understanding of and engagement with the Christian tradition.

Generally considered to be the leading historical Jesus scholar in the world, Crossan is an Irish-American New Testament scholar and former Catholic priest who has produced both scholarly and popular works. He is the author of several bestselling books, including The Historical Jesus, Jesus: A Revolutionary Biography, The Birth of Christianity, and Who Killed Jesus?. At the age of 80, Crossan currently lives in the Central Florida area.

The title of his lecture is “Original Sin and Civilization’s Violence.”
