Football scrimmage set for Saturday 9-29

The Stetson University football team has had four weeks of practice since the last time the Hatters squared off in a full scrimmage. On Saturday afternoon, Sept. 29, at the new Athletics Training Center on the Stetson campus, the Hatters will have a chance to show off how much they have improved over that time. The scrimmage, the fourth of the fall for the Hatters, is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.

“We have continued to refine fundamentals in practice and this is an opportunity for us to see where we are,” Hatters Head Coach Roger Hughes said. “I want to see where we are schematically and we want to evaluate which guys may be a little further ahead.

“We want to be able to sit down with guys after this scrimmage and give them a good evaluation of where they are after two months of work and what things they need to work on to get better.”

Over the next six weeks, the Hatters are scheduled to scrimmage five times, including the Homecoming Green-White scrimmage on Nov. 3. All five scrimmages will be held on Saturdays with 2 p.m. starts.

With this scrimmage marking the half-way point of the fall, Hughes said he expects to make some personnel decisions after reviewing the film.

“We will make some decisions on the depth chart and on personnel who may need to change positions,” Hughes said. “It is a great time for assessment for us as coaches.

“I want to get an idea of how groups like offensive linemen and defensive linemen, are working together as groups. I also want to see where the quarterbacks are.”

All of the Stetson practices and scrimmages are open to the public.
