Stetson University’s Gender Studies Program will present “Untold Stories: A Closer Look,” a performance by Emotions Dance Company, on Wednesday, Feb. 8, from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

The performance will be held in Lee Chapel inside Elizabeth Hall, 421 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand, and is free and open to the public.

Untold Stories originally premiered in August 2008 and captured audiences with emotional stories about addiction, abuse and despair. As with the original, the third edition hopes to bring attention to the emotional complexities that lie beneath difficult and touching issues. It will also include a talkback with founder Larissa Humiston, a Stetson alumna, about the inspiration behind the stories, as well as allow audience members to ask questions and give their feedback about what they see and experience.

“Though we’re commenting on difficult subject matter, the show is really about courage and hope,” explained Humiston, artistic director and the show’s choreographer.

“Untold Stories: A Closer Look continues to explore Pandora’s Box and confronts the darkness in order to turn on the light,” said Humiston. “By exploring our universal truths, the show inspires dialogue, understanding and, ultimately, healing.”

Emotions Dance is a non-profit, professional contemporary dance company that fuses modern, jazz, lyrical and ballet dance disciplines to create an entertaining and educational experience for all audiences. The company’s performances focus on social and environmental awareness through the art of dance. Collaboration with other artists enhances the experience for both the company members and the audiences. Through inspiring performances, arts-education programs, and active community outreach the company touches thousands of people of all ages, races, and economic backgrounds.

Humiston graduated Stetson in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology with minors in psychology and gender studies.
