We are proud to bring the 11th annual SLAC-WPA gathering to Stetson University, located in historic DeLand, Florida. Our conference hotel is the beautiful Plaza Resort and Spa in Daytona Beach, FL.
The Conference registration fee includes Friday night's annual reception and awards dinner, and lunch and reception on Saturday will be on Stetson’s campus. Transportation between the hotel and Stetson is included.
Join us as we meet to share ideas, research and discussion about enhancing student agency through writing. Post-President Van Hillard will facilitate conversation around these texts: Michele Eodice, Neal Lerner and Anne Ellen Geller's The Meaningful Writing Project: Learning, Teaching, and Writing in Higher Education. (Logan: Utah State UP, 2016).; and the introduction and one chapter from Janis Haswell and Richard Haswell's Authoring: An Essay for the English Profession on Singularity and Potentiality. (Logan: Utah State UP, 2010).
Alongside the conference exchange of ideas around student identity and agency, we hope you will enjoy the tour of Stetson's palm-filled campus and the Saturday afternoon small plate reception and cash bar. Transportation back to the Plaza will be provided following the reception, and the local hosts will offer recommendations for dinner and evening outings in Daytona Beach.
Participants may want to stay in DeLand after the reception to taste the delights of our vibrant downtown--recently voted America's Best Mainstreet! Here, visitors will find an eclectic array of tastes to suit every dietary preference. Antique stores, collectible shops, breweries, wine bars, bookstores, bakeries and dozens of other venues provide nearly unlimited variety for strolling, sipping, and people watching. The conference hosts -- Megan O'Neill and Leigh Ann Dunning -- will be happy to assist in making group reservations at a number of popular eateries downtown. Transportation back to the Plaza Resort will be on your own; Megan and Leigh Ann will be available to provide recommendations and help to make arrangements.
We hope to welcome you in January 2018!
