College of Arts and Sciences
“MFA of the Americas”
The new Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in creative writing held its second January residency at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, following a summer residency in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. This two-year, low-residency program allows students to develop and refine their skills as writers of fiction or poetry (poetry in the Expanded Field).
Community Education Project
Begun in 2014, the Community Education Project (CEP) started as a reading group that met once a week for three-hour, faculty-led discussions with students incarcerated at the Tomoka Correctional Institution (TCI) in Daytona Beach, Florida. Since then, CEP has blossomed into a far more ambitious program; Stetson professors have been offering six hours of instruction per week at the prison since the summer of 2015, providing workshops in a variety of disciplines including communication, history, Latina/o studies and Latin American and Latino Studies.
