Mathew Fairchild is an environmental science major with a concentration in environmental chemistry. Matthew excelled academically at Stetson, maintaining a 4.0 GPA in all of his coursework and making the Dean’s List every semester. He was involved in Men's Club Soccer and was elected president of the club. Rounding out Matthew’s academic and athletic abilities, he was also a stand-out student employee at Stetson's Gillespie Museum, where he ran the mineral lab for school groups visiting the museum.
After the onset of COVID-19, Matthew converted the material into a video for use as an online resource for teachers. Matthew conducted his senior research as a team member on a grant-funded project exploring the paleoenvironmental history of Florida springs. He took the lead on the isotope analysis at the Wekiwa Spring site.
Matthew is going on to pursue graduate study at the University of South Florida, where he has been accepted into the Environmental Science and Policy program.
