James D. Harrison

Chemistry

How does one characterize James Harrison? A gentleman and a scientist, driven to learn out of pure curiosity. That would be a good start, according to professors. During his time at Stetson, James did not seek out official student employment as a tutor, although he has urged on multiple occasions because of his academic prowess. Similarly, he chose to pass when invited to join official honorary or campus organizations. Yet, when observed in Sage Hall outside of class, James was an active helper — working with classmates, grabbing a whiteboard marker and explaining how things should be done. He also assisted the Asian Pacific American student group, along with student-led Hatter Harvest, and he organized/participated in the student chapter of the American Chemical Society, all while not being a formal member of any of those groups.

James' immediate plans involve working in a lab "doing wet chemistry," he said, with a longer-term goal of attending graduate school to study either physical organic chemistry or the organic chemistry of natural products.
