Anna Baj conducted her senior research analyzing the mechanisms of cell-cell fusion in budding yeast. Anna found excitement in the "small" results, spent more time than most in the lab and continued to work on her project throughout her final semester because of her intrinsic motivation. That effort enabled her to produce data that was accepted for a poster presentation at this year's Association of Southeastern Biologists conference.
Anna also sought out additional opportunities to get hands-on experience with research, such as being a teaching assistant for Stetson's microbiology course (with its project-based lab) and applying for the Postbaccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award program at the National Institutes of Health.
After graduation, Anna plans to continue conducting research while pursuing a PhD or MD/PhD.
