Replacement of Chiller Plant Transformer Scheduled for Tonight

Stetson and Duke Energy have rescheduled work to replace the transformer on the campus chiller plant for Saturday, June 26, starting at 8 p.m.

Stetson’s chiller plant cools most of the buildings on the DeLand campus. Replacing the transformer will require a power outage only at the chiller plant facility for an estimated six to eight hours. No chilled water service will be available during this time to cool the buildings listed below.

Afterward, the chiller plant will require another two to three hours to restart and cool the campus back down to normal conditions. This means no cooling will be available in the buildings below from 8 p.m. Saturday until between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Sunday. Normal service is expected to resume by 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday.

Please be advised that pets living in campus facilities may need extra attention during this time.

The work may be delayed or postponed in the event of bad weather. A decision to delay or postpone the work may be made late Saturday night. The Facilities Management department will notify the campus community of any schedule changes by email and announcements.

The affected buildings include:

  • Athletic Training Center
  • Carlton Union Building
