Stetson Alumnus’s Film Picked Up by Sony Pictures Classics

Stetson graduate Clint Bentley (’09) received exciting news as Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the rights to Bentley’s film “Jockey.” It premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 31 in the U.S. Dramatic Competition, winning a Jury Award for Best Actor. “Jockey” serves as Bentley’s directorial debut, written in collaboration with Greg Kwedar.

The film’s plot follows an “experienced rider who has endured decades of racing on the equestrian circuit [and] now finds himself facing what could be his last season due to deteriorating health. With the help of Ruth and a promising new horse, Jackson begins to prepare for the upcoming championship, reflecting on his legacy.”

While at Stetson, Bentley was a SURE grant recipient and used the funding to produce the documentary, “Boulders Fall to Each,” which captures the border tension between the United States and Mexico.
