Important Campus Announcements

Several important announcements were made to the Stetson Community this week regarding Gateway Testing re-testing, national politics and the Campus Climate study process.

In case you missed any of these, here is a short summary of each one with a link to the full announcement:

• Gateway Testing Re-Tests: Stetson has learned that a small number (under 5%) of the tests at DeLand Gateway were administered by throat swab by our testing partner DeLand Wellness Center. This type of test is approved to be administered collecting specimens only via nose swab, not from a throat swab. DeLand Wellness did not take note of who took the throat version of the test, so we do not have a list of who chose the throat administered option. We have received guidance from the Volusia County Department of Health (DOH), and request that people who tested by throat retest quickly in the proper way. Read Thursday’s full announcement and learn about re-testing options on the Safer Stetson website, under Latest Updates.

• The Inauguration and Stetson Values: “The university leadership has closely followed the social media and news reports surrounding the events in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6, and afterward. Given an FBI warning regarding potential attacks on state capitol buildings on Sunday, Jan. 17, and the uncertainty surrounding Inauguration Day on Wednesday, Jan. 20, I want to let you know how Stetson University is responding,” Stetson University President Christopher F. Roellke, PhD, wrote to students, faculty and staff on Friday. Read the President’s Message.

• Campus Climate Status Report: “As part of our yearlong climate study process, we are providing a status report of our work to date. We continue to support and organize university resources to move forward toward equity and justice, as we promised when we launched the climate survey last year.” Read Tuesday’s full message from President Roellke; Lua Hancock, EdD, vice president of Campus Life and Student Success; and Michèle Alexandre, JD, dean of Stetson College of Law.
