Join the duPont-Ball Virtual SF Book Club to Discuss ‘The War of the Worlds!’
What: A virtual SF book club to discuss HG Wells’ seminal alien invasion classic, “The War of the Worlds,” and possibly some of its many adaptations! In difficult times, fiction can provide an escape – or hold up a mirror to the challenges we face. Read about a nation under siege and discuss how our own situation compares!
How: First, join the GroupMe. Then, because “The War of the Worlds” is in the public domain, you can read it for free at Project Gutenberg – just click here! If you want to listen to Orson Welles’ famous 1938 radio adaptation that may or may not have caused a nationwide panic, you can listen to that here on YouTube.
When: You can start reading the book right now! The virtual meeting will occur at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 23.
Where: Well, we can’t exactly meet in the physical world at the moment. The online venue is still being decided, but in the mean time we can organize in the chat program, GroupMe. Click here to join the group!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask them by emailing Christopher Finkle at firstname.lastname@example.org.
