Inclusion Opportunity

Are you in need of administrative support? Would you like to further promote inclusion on the campus of Stetson University? Project SEARCH has an opportunity for you!

Partnering with Stetson University, Volusia County Schools, Progressive Abilities Support Services and Vocational Rehabilitation, Project SEARCH is a vocational training program to prepare young people with significant disabilities for success in competitive integrated employment. Project SEARCH was originally developed in 1996 at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, and has since grown from the original site to a large and continuously expanding international network of sites.

At Stetson University, Project SEARCH is a one-year internship opportunity for students of Volusia County Schools who deferred their diploma and are between the ages of 18-21. To reach that goal, the program provides real-life work experience combined with training in employability and independent-living skills to help students make successful transitions to productive adult life. On the campus of Stetson University, Project SEARCH students hold unpaid internships at various offices, such as Residential Living & Learning, Public Safety and the Hollis Center, and complete a variety of administrative tasks.

We are currently looking for offices and staff at Stetson University who have pressing needs that Project SEARCH students will be able to assist with, which would give them the opportunity to tailor their vocational skills. We are willing to work with partnership offices to highlight student’s strengths and will provide support where needed.

In addition, the presence of a Project SEARCH program can bring about long-term changes in business culture that have far-reaching positive effects on attitudes about hiring people with disabilities and the range of jobs in which they can be successful.

If you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, please reach out to us, and we can arrange a meeting in the near future.

Sincerely,
