Martin Luther King Day Events

A number of exciting events are lined up to celebrate Martin Luther King Day. Below you will find the list of events and opportunities to participate:

Wednesday, Jan. 15
7 – 9 p.m. | 1st Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Life and Legacy Celebration
Carlton Union Building, Stetson Room

Join the Office of Diversity and Inclusion to commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. King and come together as a community to show support and commitment to social justice efforts. Dr. Patrick Coggins will offer an inspirational welcome and history of the perseverance of many Stetson University community members. Mr. Johnathan Harris, Founder and Headmaster of Lynnhaven Academy, will be our keynote speaker for the evening.

Cultural Credit offered at this program as well as hot chocolate, coffee, cider, hot teas and desserts for all attendees.

Monday, Jan. 20
9 – 10:30 a.m. | Martin Luther King Signature Breakfast
Hollis Center Rinker Field House

The keynote speaker will be retired NFL Offensive Tackle Tra Thomas and the breakfast host will be radio personality, Jo Jo O’Neal. Tickets to the breakfast are free for Stetson University students, faculty, and staff.

Tickets are $10 for community members.  This event is Cultural Credit approved for students. We have free tickets to this breakfast and are looking for volunteers to help with check-in. Register to attend the event and sign up to volunteer.

11 a.m. – 12 p.m. | Historic March Downtown
Starts on Woodland Boulevard by Emily Hall

Join community members in celebrating Martin Luther King Day by participating in a march that will begin on Woodland Boulevard in the center of campus and end at Earl Brown Park, where there will be a festival with food and live entertainment.

12 – 4 p.m.| Martin Luther King Community Festival
Earl Brown Park

Enjoy food, live entertainment and a 3×3 basketball tournament.
