‘African Safari’ by Dan Gunderson, Thursday, Nov. 21, 5 p.m.
Dan Gunderson, Stetson Artist in Residence, decided to travel to Africa when he retired after 43 years as an art professor.
The trip from Sept. 30 to Oct. 23 took him to the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, and to Kenya, Victoria Falls in Livingstone, Zambia, Cape Town and then five days in London.
In Africa, he recorded videos and photographed just about every animal that he saw in the game reserves: lions, giraffe, elephants and warthogs.
With the help of a digital arts student, he has created a 20-minute film that he will show Thursday, Nov. 21, from 5-6 p.m. in the Hand Art Center during African Safari. He also will show a slide show and talk about the living conditions, drought, staggering unemployment, corruption and other issues faced by the people of Africa.
Cultural Credit will be available.
