From Jamaica to the Moon: an evening with filmmaker Esther Figueroa

Please join us on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 6 p.m. in the Rinker Auditorium (LBC 108), for this Cultural Credit event! Jamaican filmmaker and community leader, Esther Figueroa, will present her new film, Fly Me to the Moon, which has won a Merit Award from the 2019 Awareness Film Festival.  The film tells stories about the mining of bauxite in Jamaica, the prime ingredient of aluminum, used in many consumer products and for NASA rockets.  In tracing the social and environmental roots of our prime metal of modernity, she challenges us to think about the international connections of American life from our aluminum cans to our plans for space travel.

This event is sponsored by the Africana Studies, American Studies, and Gender Studies programs, the Communication & Media Studies, Creative Arts, Environmental Science and Studies, History, Political Science and Sociology departments, and the office of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
