Stetson Artists & Lecturers Series – Dr. Robert Duke Residency 2019
On Sept. 19-20, the Stetson School of Music and Stetson’s Artists & Lecturers Series will host Dr. Robert Duke for a residency focused on how people learn and interact with music. Dr. Duke is Professor of Music and Human Learning, and Director of the Center for Music Learning at the University of Texas at Austin.
On Thursday, Sept. 19, Dr. Duke will present a Keynote Address titled, “If we learn like that, why do we teach like this?” at 6 p.m. in the Stetson Room of the CUB, followed by time for questions and a meet-and-greet. This Keynote is open to the public and the talk is designed to be informative and of interest to the broader community. Cultural Credit is available.
Dr. Duke will also guest lecture in MUED 265, the Music Education FSEM, from 8:30-9:45 a.m. and in MUED 352, the Music Administration class, from 11:30 a.m.-12:20 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19.
Then, on Friday, Sept. 20, Dr. Duke will meet with all Music Education majors during our Music Education Professional Development (MEPD) Hour at 2:30 p.m. in McMahan Hall, presenting a session titled, “Work, Play, Joy.” All presentations are open to the public, but space may be limited with seating priority given to our Stetson Music Education majors.
In addition, there is time set aside for Dr. Duke to interact with faculty and administration during the two-day residency. Anyone wishing to be included in a meeting can make a request through the School of Music.
Dr. Duke is an engaging speaker who has been the featured speaker at numerous state, national and international conferences, including recent presentations for the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and the Florida Music Educators Association (FMEA). He is also a co-host on the public radio program and podcast Two Guys on Your Head, produced by KUT Radio in Austin.
