Florida’s Changing Waters: A Beautiful World in Peril

Join us this Thursday, May 9, from 6-8 p.m. at the beautiful new Stetson Aquatic Center!

Photographer and writer Lynne Buchanan will introduce her new book Florida’s Changing Waters: A Beautiful World in Peril. She will be joined by Stetson University associate professor Dr. Jason Evans, who contributed an essay, for a discussion of the book and Florida water issues.

Florida’s Changing Waters: A Beautiful World in Peril not only showcases the beauty, diversity, and complexity of Florida’s waters, but also documents the negative effects of agricultural and industrial pollution, a growing population with its urban growth and land development, and climate change on Florida’s inland and coastal waters and springs. Though her work is place specific, the book reveals the interconnected and global nature of environmental problems.

As a bonus, Jeffrey Forbes of the Goodwin Company in Micanopy will give a brief talk about the recovered cypress materials that were used for the ceiling of the new Stetson Aquatic Center. This free event is sponsored by the Institute for Water and Environmental Resilience (IWER) at Stetson University.

A book signing and sale, light refreshments and a musical performance by Evans and Forbes against the backdrop of scenic Lake Beresford will follow the discussions. Books will be available to purchase for $45. Partial proceeds from the book sales will benefit IWER.
