Stetson Steps Up Efforts to Combat Phishing
Phishing is the top cybersecurity threat to Stetson and to most other organizations. To combat this threat, on Wednesday, March 20, the Stetson Information Technology department will begin prepending a sentence to emails that are not affiliated with Stetson with a “CAUTION” message. This change will be done to all users of Stetson’s email system.
The full message will be “CAUTION: This email originated from outside of Stetson. Do not click on links or open any attachments unless you expected the attachments and know the sender.” Below is a screenshot of the message:
The message is intended to alert you when you receive an email from a sender not affiliated with Stetson or from Stetson’s email system. This message is especially helpful when an email address or name is spoofed.
