Concert Season Premieres on Friday

The School of Music invites you to the Friends of Music concert, Friday, Aug. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in Lee Chapel. Admission is complimentary, and Cultural Credit is available for students.

The evening opens with our new voice professor, Chadley Ballantyne, bass-baritone, singing pieces from Schubert’s Schwanengesang and Ibert’s Chansons de Don Quichotte, finishing with Mark Kohn’s Wanderin’ with Kristie Born, piano. David Bjella, cello, and Hannah Sun, piano, perform two movements of Shostakovich’s gorgeous Sonata in D Minor for Cello and Piano, followed by Tammara Phillips, flute, and Kristie Born, piano, with Doppler’s festive and flashy Fantasie Pastorale Hongroise. Hannah Sun (School of Music faculty) and Yohann Ripert (Arts & Sciences faculty), both Juilliard graduates, join forces to close the concert with two-piano arrangements of Bach’s Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring and Dukas’ delightful The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

The festivities continue with a reception following the performance in the Rinker Welcome Center.
