Position Interviews for Student Media
Student Media is beginning the process of interviewing any and all students interested in the following positions for the 2016-2017 academic year.
- Head Pub Board Chair: Duties include (1) convening Board meetings as necessary; (2) taking minutes of all Board meetings; (3) communicating with the Board about issues related to student media; (4) disseminating copies of the minutes after each meeting to the members of the Board and one for a permanent file; (5) sending notices to each Board member before each meeting; (6) defending the interests of the student media; (7) presiding over and directing all Board meetings; (8) attending to any necessary correspondence for the Board (9) preparing an agenda for each meeting and permitting individual Board members to submit items for this agenda and (10) advertising and promoting the monthly Board meetings on the Stetson master calendar.
- Editor-in-Chief of The Reporter: Duties include (1) assuming control and responsibility for the production of at least 20 issues for the academic year, unless a different number is approved by the Board; (2) being aware of the advertising demand for each issue and working with the business manager to make space arrangements for advertising; (3) being aware of available funds and planning the size of each issue accordingly; (4) maintaining an editorial staff of at least four people to whom responsibilities can be delegated; (5) maintaining professional standards of journalistic excellence; (6) maintaining Board policies; (7) assuming responsibility for all photography, proofing, headlining, layout, design, and content in each issue; (8) selecting a temporary adviser if necessary and (9) assisting in the production of the final issue of The Reporter for the academic year preceding their appointment.
- Editor-in-chief of Touchstone: Duties include (1) assuming control and responsibility for the production of at least one literary magazine for the academic year; (2) maintaining a staff of at least three persons, at his/her discretion, to coordinate “Uncouth Hour;” (3) maintaining professional standards of publication excellence; (4) maintaining Board policies; (5) assuming responsibility for all proofing, layout, design, and content in the magazine; (6) maintaining a current financial report concerning Touchstone funds to be presented to the Board upon request; (7) assuming final responsibility for the coordination of “Uncouth Hour;”; (8) planning the publication before the end of the academic year and (9) planning at least five major events per year.
- Student Media Business Manager: Duties include (1) selling advertisements; (2) billing for advertisements and collecting revenue from advertisers; (3) professional correspondence with fellow employees in designing and laying out all advertisements; (4) establishing advertisement rates with the heads of each of Student Media’s components; (5) keeping rate cards and advertising facsimile sheets available; (6) sending tear sheets to all off-campus advertisers; and (7) maintaining a current financial report concerning Student Media funds to be presented to the Board upon request.
