On Sunday, April 19, from 12 noon-3 p.m., there will be a Coral Ardisia Removal Project at Chuck Lennon Park. Volunteers are needed. Transportation is available. To sign up, please email Logan Dodson (ldodson@Stetson.edu).
Coral Ardisia is an invasive species originally from Asia (http://plants.ifas.ufl.edu/node/42) that has established several infestations at Chuck Lennon Mountain Bike Park and is estimated to have 3,000-3,500 plants on site. It grows quickly and crowds out native species. By removing it now in the spring (when this plant has unmistakable bright red berries) with a combined manual removal + herbicide spot-treatment we can remove existing plants and work on restoring the environment to its native state. By participating in this project you will have an integral role in restoring the habitat that will be seen by hundreds of mountain bikers for years to come (and if you come back mountain biking at Chuck Lennon MTB Park).
