Stetson Environmental Club is organizing a huge environmental project for this Saturday, Nov. 8 at DeLeon Springs and volunteers are needed. Here are the details: The project will be from 8 a.m.-12 noon.
Transportation will be a caravan to the Springs, staging in the Sage Hall parking lot at 7:40 a.m., and leaving at 7:50 a.m. Carpooling available. The project should take about three hours (8-11) and then everyone will be able to get pancakes at the Sugarmill or go swimming (wetsuit highly required) until 12 noon and then return to Stetson.
The three projects at the Springs will be hydrilla removal in the swamp, general invasive species removal along the trail, and tree planting + trash removal. Hydrilla removal will be in the deep swamp and will require wading through muck and water. Water may be up to waist height. General invasive species removal will be along the natural trail and will have some mucky areas but overall much drier than the swamp. Tree planting will occur at the site of the previous tree planting project and will be planting pine trees. It will also include a portion removing trash along the road.
If you are interested in signing up please email Logan (ldodson@Stetson.edu) by Friday with what project you are interested in helping with at the Springs and if you need a carpool seat.
