What’s Still Happening in Ukraine? Flash Forum #2
Tues., Mar. 18, 4-5 p.m., 129 Sampson Hall, Language Commons, Cultural Credit available
Designed for the non-specialist, this event features a panel of experts who will discuss the unfolding of the Ukraine crisis from the civil disturbances in Kiev that began last November to the current international stand-off between NATO and the Russian Federation. Why are Russian troops inside of Ukrainian territory? What is Vladimir Putin seeking? Are the self-described Russian nationals who live in southern Ukraine and the Crimea really being threatened by Ukrainian nationalists? Is the current government in Kiev legitimate? What’s next?
Panelists include Eugene Huskey, Ph.D., professor of political science and Russian studies at Stetson University; Mayhill Fowler, Ph.D., assistant professor of history and an expert on Ukraine at Stetson University; and Dominique Arel, Ph.D., chair of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Ottawa. The panelists will make brief presentations and then open up the floor for questions from members of the audience.
