Judges needed for the Stetson Showcase (SURCAS) April 18
To all faculty, active and retired:
As you have probably noticed by now, classes will be cancelled April 18 for Showcase (formerly SURCAS). If the success of 2011 is anything to go by we anticipate several sessions, poster, art, moving image and oral presentation. Last year Showcase broke a record with 150 participants, grouped in broadly themed sessions. While we see no need to grow too much more, we were under-represented in humanities, music and business. We ask that faculty begin encouraging their Showcase-quality students to prepare a poster or presentation for submission in March.
We encourage faculty to work in Showcase attendance to their class requirements. Cultural credit will be offered in the usual manner.
Finally, we continue to need faculty judges. We anticipate seven judging venues in posters, presentations, and visual and digital arts, in all day blocks. We try to have three judges from different divisions/schools at each venue. If a judge feels too close to a project, he or she can abstain, allowing the two others to vote on that project.
To do this we need volunteers. We will require 21-24 faculty dedicated to spending the day judging. The SURCAS committee cannot handle this aspect as it spends the day moderating and handling technical issues, so we turn to you for this crucial role. If you wish to volunteer, and have not already done so (and you wonderful people know who you are), please contact me (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Thanks in advance. We are very excited about this year, and the possibilities afforded by a full commitment to Showcase as a campus event.
