Stetson’s Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership will help you establish the qualifications needed for positions as deans, assistant principals, principals, program directors and other school districts and state education-level positions. Our program is built on “theory of practice” and focuses on contemporary content and experiences that result in passing the Florida Educational Leadership Examination (FELE Principal’s Exam).

Candidates will continue through the course work in cohorts, starting in the summer and January semesters. This encourages candidates to build meaningful relationships with their principals, administrators and their peers in each cohort.
Candidates are also encouraged to develop reflective decision-making abilities as leader-scholars who use research and validated models to complement their knowledge, skills and professional and ethical dispositions. In turn, these skill sets will envelop a dynamic leadership approach to benefit effective schools accordingly.
The program concludes with the completion of
- a 135-hour Ed. Leadership internship experience.
- successfully passing the FELE Principal Exam required for certification as an administrator or principal.

Educational leaders within the Master’s Degree and Principalship Certification typically earn higher salaries than teachers with only a bachelor’s degree. Graduates assume the following positions:

- State and federal leadership officials
Ed. Leadership Internship
As a part of Stetson University’s Educational Leadership graduate program, students complete 135 hours of Ed. Leadership internship experience at their school site during our 11-month program. This experience provides students with receiving hands-on coaching from experienced school administrators and support from Stetson University faculty members. They come to the internship site to meet with candidates and their building principals to agree upon a culminating Action Research project, which can be utilized by the intern to assist with career advancement.
The Leadership Candidate performs administrative/leadership duties under the supervision of a school-based principal. The internship is a practical learning experience open only to advanced graduate students in Educational Leadership. It is designed for reflective practitioners to bridge the gap between principles and theory and real-world educational leadership experiences.
The three-semester internship experience and seminars provide students with an understanding of the Florida Principal Standards and the Competencies of the Florida Educational Leadership Exam (FELE), required for graduation and state certification.
