Information Technology - About VPN

If you have not migrated your office or personal files to SharePoint or OneDrive, you can download our VPN (Virtual Private Network) client to access our on-campus H: and I: drives.  If you would like to set up such a connection, please follow the steps below:

  • On a non-Stetson network, open a browser and connect to
  • When prompted to log in, enter your Stetson user name and password
  • From the launch page, click Download FortiClient and select the appropriate OS; click Save
  • Open the Downloads folder; launch FortiClientMiniSetup (for Windows PCs, right-click to Run as Administrator and select Yes when prompted)
  • Accept the license agreement and click Next through the installer, without changing options; reboot before continuing
  • After reboot, you should have a green checkmark icon in your notification area (where the volume, network and running application icons reside); click this icon and select Open FortiClient Console
  • Click the button labeled Remote Access, then click the Configure VPN link
  • In the New VPN Connection screen (SSL-VPN), enter Stetson in the Connection Name field; optionally, enter a description in the Description field

    - You can choose to be prompted for login or have the client save the information for future connections
  • After entering the information, click Apply, then Close at the bottom of the New VPN Connection screen
  • In the main FortiClient screen, enter your Stetson username/password and click Connect; you will receive a "FortiClient: Connected to Stetson" notification once connected
  • A FortiGate detection screen may appear; if you choose Accept, the device you are connected to will be stored
  • Close the FortiClient window; you will remain connected
  • For security, when you no longer need to be connected, click the icon and select Disconnect “Stetson”
