Meet Our Team
Royal Gardner, professor of law and director of the Institute for Biodiversity Law and Policy, is an internationally recognized expert in wetland law and policy. Recent projects include advising the government of Oman regarding wetland policy, co-authoring a U.S. Supreme Court amicus brief on behalf of environmental scientists, and creating an interdisciplinary course that facilitates discourse among experienced scientists, policymakers and students. He is the former chair of the Scientific and Technical Review Panel for the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, an international environmental treaty that seeks to conserve wetlands.
Erin Okuno, assistant director of the Institute for Biodiversity Law and Policy, is a licensed attorney who supports the institute's environmental education and service activities. She conducts research on environmental law, science, and policy issues, including wetlands, biodiversity, endangered species, and international environmental law. A 2013 Stetson Law graduate, Okuno served as editor in chief of the Stetson Law Review. At graduation, she received the Edward D. Foreman Most Distinguished Student Award.
