Professor Anne E. Mullins joined the Stetson University College of Law faculty in Fall 2018 as an associate professor teaching research and writing.

Professor Mullins is passionate about teaching. She began her academic career in the University of Oregon’s nationally-ranked legal writing program. After that, she taught at the University of North Dakota School of Law. She received the prestigious University of North Dakota Foundation Outstanding Faculty Award for Excellence in Graduate or Professional Teaching in 2017, and she was named the law school’s Teacher of the Year in 2017 and 2018.

Professor Mullins’s scholarship examines judicial writing through a cognitive theoretical framework. Her published articles in this area include “Jedi or Judge: How Cognitive Psychology Redefines Judicial Opinions” in the Wyoming Law Review and “Subtly Selling the System: Where Psychological Influence Tactics Lurk in the Judicial System” in the University of Richmond Law Review. She also writes and presents nationally in the areas of innovative pedagogy, developing professional identity, and legal research instruction. She is the co-author of the book North Dakota Legal Research. Professor Mullins was awarded the Webb Faculty Achievement Award in 2016 for her scholarly productivity.

Professor Mullins is a national leader in legal writing, serving all three major legal writing professional organizations. She is currently the president-elect and a member of the board of directors of the Association of Legal Writing Directors (ALWD). She is the Conference Chair of ALWD’s 2019 Biennial Conference. She serves the Legal Writing Institute as a member of the Discipline-Building Working Group, the Scholarships Grants Committee, and the Administrative Options Committee. She recently finished her term on the Executive Committee of the American Association of Law Schools Legal Writing Section, and she will serve on the organization’s Nominations Committee in the upcoming year. Professor Mullins was awarded the Robert Johnson Fellowship in 2017 for her national leadership in legal writing.

Before entering academia, Professor Mullins practiced complex commercial litigation at the top national litigation boutique, Susman Godfrey LLP. Her trial teams won more than $50 million for plaintiffs; her teams successfully defended clients against equally high-stakes claims. She clerked for the Honorable Jacques L. Wiener of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the Honorable Sarah S. Vance of the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Professor Mullins received her J.D., with honors, from the University of Chicago Law School, where she served on the University of Chicago Law Review. She earned her A.B. from Dartmouth College.
