Scholarship Opportunities this Holiday break!

Check out these awesome opportunities over the break for scholarships:

  • For 1L’s:
    • Diversity Scholar Program (Due: January 20th, 2018)
      • The Diversity Scholar Program is a coaching, mentorship, and recruiting program designed to help law students understand their career goals and secure employment while simultaneously preparing them with the skills required to flourish in their legal positions.
  • Other
    • Sarasota County Bar Association’s Richard Garland Diversity Scholarship and Internship (Due January 31, 2018)
      • Any 1L, 2L or rising 3L student enrolled in an accredited law school who is a member of a minority class as defined by the Florida Bar is eligible to apply.   Selection is based on need, merit and other qualifying criteria noted on the application.  Preference will be given to those students who have ties to the Sarasota community and who have expressed or demonstrated a commitment to return to Sarasota to pursue his or her legal career upon graduation from law school. Selected applicants will receive a tuition assistance scholarship in an amount of up to $5,000.00 (payable directly to the student’s law school), and, if summer employment in the Sarasota area has not already been secured, a paid summer law clerk position at a Sarasota private law firm, government agency, non-profit or other entity that has agreed to employ the student for a minimum 10 weeks.  In addition to the rich legal employment experience, awardees become summer members of the Committee on Diversity and Inclusion and will regularly interface with members of the Judiciary, the Bar and other community leaders.
    • American Bar Association’s Judicial Intern Opportunity (JIOP) (Due: January 8, 2018)
      • The American Bar Association Section of Litigation is still accepting applications for its summer 2018 Judicial Intern Opportunity Program (JIOP). The program is a full-time (32 hours per week), six-week minimum, summer internship program open to all first-or second-year diverse law students. The application is now open to first and second-year law students. The mission of the Judicial Intern Opportunity Program is to provide opportunities to students who are members of racial and ethnic groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the profession.  The program also provides opportunities to students with disabilities, women, students who are economically disadvantaged and students who identify themselves as LGBT. Internships are available in several locations in California, Illinois and Texas.  In addition, we offer internships in the following cities: Phoenix, AZ; Washington, DC; Miami, FL; New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA (including Camden, NJ); and Seattle, WA. Students may indicate geographic location preferences on their applications, but may not request judges or courts.  Interns will receive an award of $2,000.
    • Caribbean Bar Association’s 2017-2018 Scholarship (Due: January 26th, 2018)
      • Each year the CBA selects students to receive $3000 stipends for summer internships with the Legal Services of Greater Miami or with a judge in Broward or Miami-Dade County. The scholarship is open to 1st and 2nd year law students who have an interest in serving the Caribbean American community.
