New! 1L Changes to FL Bar Application Registration
Effective December 19, 2017, the Florida Board of Bar Examiners has implemented online application submissions,. NOTE, this may require a change on your part to receive the $100 early application fee for 1L Student Registrations to be paid by Stetson so please read carefully.
The checklist on the Florida Board of Bar Examiners website has instructions for students who started the application prior to June 26, 2017, as well as those who created the accounts after June 26, 2017.
For applicants who have already finalized and printed their application before December 19, 2017, but have not yet mailed it to the Board: Follow the instructions under Step 3-Paragraph 11 on the checklist. Those applications will still print with the old/former Section C instructions, which requires a handwriting sample with signature and notarization. Submit your full and complete registration package, along with all attachments, to the Business Office before the deadline of January 10, 2017 to qualify for the Stetson-paid application fee.
For applicants who created their accounts after June 26, 2017 and did not finalize the application before December 19, 2017: Follow the instructions under Step 3-Paragraph 12 on the checklist. The system will accept your application electronically with an acknowledgement and generate a Cover Sheet for Bar Application Submission. This means that if you are completing your application TODAY or later, you need only print a paper copy of your application for your own records. The Board does not want duplicate paper applications submitted. There are still forms that will have to be mailed to start the application process, including but not limited to the Cover Sheet for Bar Application Submission, 3 notarized Authorization and Release forms, the student registration fee, and the confirmation sheet for the fingerprint card submission. All the necessary documents are outlined in Step 4-Packing list to Submit a Complete Registrant Bar Application on the Checklist to Register as a First Year Student. Those items should still be printed and submitted to the Business Office before the deadline of January 10, 2017 to qualify for the Stetson-paid application fee.
The easiest way to determine whether your application needs to be submitted in hard copy is whether the Section C includes the handwriting sample and notary block. If it does, it needs to be submitted by mail, along with all attachments. If it does not include the handwriting sample and notary block, you will have submitted an electronic application and the cover sheet is what is applicable, along with all attachments.
If you have specific questions about this new filing procedure, please contact the Florida Board of Bar Examiners.
