Stetson University College of Law and the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay have formed a partnership — The Alliance for Advocacy and Philanthropy (“The Alliance”) — to benefit the Tampa Bay area.  This partnership will align the power of advocacy with the heart of philanthropy.  Through the Alliance the general public, local nonprofits, and for-profit corporations will have opportunities to take part in conversations regarding community needs.

As part of the collaboration, the Alliance has an office space on our Gulfport campus and will offer two paid fellowships each semester for students attending Stetson Law School. The two fellowships are for fall 2020. Work will also occur at the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay’s additional offices in downtown St. Petersburg and Tampa with the opportunity to attend some evening community events.

Students chosen to work as fellows with the Alliance will gain an in-depth understanding of community philanthropy and have hands-on opportunities to work with nonprofit organizations.  They will be introduced to nonprofit board governance, the grantmaking process, donor development, and funding agreements.  In addition, students working in the paid fellowship positions will receive considerable exposure to how grants are evaluated and sustained; and they may also be called upon to analyze data to support nonprofit organizational needs and to assess programmatic outcomes.

If you are interested in applying for the Spring 2020 paid fellowships please submit your resumes and a cover letter to Professor Scully at no later than July 3rd.  Your cover letter should indicate why you are interested in this position and what skills you currently possess that you think will be an asset to The Alliance.

Interviews for these positions will be held sometime between July 13th through July 24th.  Candidates will be interviewed by Professor Scully as well as Jesse Coraggio, Vice President of the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay.  The finalists for this fellowship will be notified no later than July 31st, with a starting work date of September 3, 2020.
