Help Veterans and earn Legal Pro Bono at the Veterans Administration
The VA Office of Chief Counsel has a legal pro bono opportunity available for up to three (3) students for the summer semester.
Duties include researching legal issues and drafting memorandums of law/ pleadings in the Office of Chief Counsel’s areas of practice, including: torts, personnel law, and various general hospital legal issues.
Rising 3Ls (currently a 2L) are preferred, but all will be considered.
Placement is in the Office of Chief Counsel’s Core Office in St. Petersburg, FL. Students will have the opportunity to work in person with attorneys stationed in the Core Office as well as virtually with attorneys stationed throughout our region (across Florida and Puerto Rico).
Students should plan to work one or two days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday preferred, but flexible). Due to the time and expense to the VA in onboarding students, please apply only if you are able to dedicate a minimum of eight (8) weeks.
Students must agree to a criminal background investigation and be fingerprinted at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center (Bay Pines).
