The Stetson University Honors Program Experience
The Honors Experience
The Stetson University Honors Program provides a select group of students an academically enriched and intellectually stimulating experience. In place of the general education classes required of all Stetson students, Honors students experience a uniquely integrated curriculum consisting of specially designed Honors core courses and special educational opportunities and experiences.
The program's curriculum extends well beyond the classroom. A quick list of the enriched opportunities the program offers would include
- special funding for research, travel, and other academic endeavors
- the opportunity to design your own major and courses
- special distinction at Commencement
- exclusive meetings with distinguished campus visitors
- enhanced advising
- encouragement and support for national scholarships and fellowships
- student teaching
Students within the program elect a major field for concentration and take courses from that curriculum. They often pursue a minor and, in many cases, a second major. In fact, the Honors curriculum enables most students to complete their General Education and major requirements more efficiently. Because Honors students take many of courses together and participate in a range of activities outside of class, they feel a strong connection to the program and the college.
Honors education goes beyond special classes and opportunities: What makes it work is a commitment of dedicated professors and motivated students who are united by their common interest in intellectual adventure. It entails extracurricular conversations, gatherings, outings, and friendships. It includes special advising and counseling opportunities intended to help Honors students derive the greatest benefit possible from their education.
