To earn the ACS-certified Biochemistry degree, students must complete the following courses:

Students must choose ONE course from the following list:

Biological Inorganic Chemistry CHEM 302
Physical Chemistry II CHEM 303
Analytical Chemistry II CHEM 305

Collateral Courses: Required courses for the Biochemistry major that are taught outside the chemistry department include:

Two semesters of Calculus:

  • MATH 141 - Calculus with Analytic Geometry I
  • MATH 142 - Calculus with Analytic Geometry II

Students who need "pre-calculus" must take the sequence MATH 130, MATH 131, MATH 142.

To semesters of Physics:

  • PHYS 121 or PHYS 141 - College Physics I or University Physics I
  • PHYS 122 or PHYS 142 - College Physics II or University Physics II

Two semesters of introductory Biology:

  • BIOL 141 - Introductory Biology I
  • BIOL 142 - Introductory Biology II

And two courses from the following list:

  • BIOL 301 - Microbiology
  • BIOL 302 - Genetics
  • BIOL 320 - Cell Biology
  • BIOL 420 - Molecular Biology

All Biochemistry majors will earn the ACS-certified degree.
