Be the one to save a life: BE A MATCH

Won’t you be Dr. Biernacki’s Hero?

Dr. Christine Biernacki, originally a native of the Jersey Shore, moved to Florida over 35 years ago.  She started out in St. Petersburg, moved to Daytona Beach and finally settled in De Land where she raised her family.  Two of her proudest accomplishments are her sons, Eric & Scott. More recently she welcomed her first grandchild, Makenna into her life. Since her arrival 13 months ago she has been her grandma’s pride and joy!

Chris had always dreamed of becoming a teacher, so when her boys were old enough to go to school full time, she enrolled herself too!  She earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Biology from Stetson University, and later on, a Doctorate in Education from UCF.  She has made Stetson her home away from home for the last 18 years teaching a variety of Biology and Nutrition Classes. More recently her passion has been reaching out to Breast Cancer Support Groups to teach free seminars on the importance nutrition plays in the healing process.
Ironically, she has now become a cancer patient herself and has been diagnosed with a rare, aggressive cancer called Acute Myeloma Leukemia, or AML.  Due to the severe nature of her case, her doctors have determined she needs a bone marrow transplant to ensure her chance of recovery.

After testing her siblings in hopes of finding a donor match but not finding one, her doctors have turned to the National Bone Marrow Registry.  To date no matches have been found, but that could change with your help.  Every single person that registers increases the chances of finding a potential donor match and saving her life.  Thank you for taking the time to participate in the Stetson Bone Marrow drive in honor of Dr. Biernacki.
