Creative Writing: Poetry

These six-hour creative writing workshops are open to 9th to 12th graders and will focus on generating new poems, understanding revision and effective workshop strategies. In the fall workshop, students will practice Sonnet, Ode and Villanelle following modern examples, try out a few revision exercises on their new poems and participate in a positive workshop of their poem dedicated to finding missed opportunities in the work. The spring workshop will focus on the Sestina, the Elegy and the golden shovel to expand students' repertoires. Bring paper and pen/pencil. Lunch included.

Date: October 22, 2022 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and April 22, 2023 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Note: the schedule and approach will be structured the same for both classes, but the content will vary, so students are welcome to sign up for both classes.
